A SPECTACLE OF GOLDEN RAYS
As the sun slips into slumber behind the majestic Al Hajar mountains of Jebel Shams, the sky transforms into a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors which paint the sky in warm oranges, dazzling pinks, and deep purples and blues. JebelShams is Oman’s highest mountain peak, rising into the sky and towering over Oman from an awe-inspiring 3,004 meters high.

Thousands of photographers flock here every year in the hope of capturing the perfect moment amidst the shifting light, the changing color palette, and the sanctuary of silence and solitude atop this diverse geological terrain. The best photo opportunities are found at sunset and sunrise, when the golden galaxy flaunts its majesty and dares photographers to do her justice.
A scenic 2.5 to 3-hour car ride – around 240 kilometers – escorts ambitious explorers from Muscat to this magnificent mountain haven. Most people flock here during Oman’s cooler months, from October to March, promising clear skies and unblemished views of Al-Misht towering over the city.
From personal experience, I can confidently say that the temperature here drops significantly at night. Don’t be fooled by the daytime heat – pack a jacket and warm clothing if you plan on stargazing atJebel Shams at sunset.
